The coronavirus pandemic has managed to affect every aspect of American life. Most of the population is staying in and trying to find ways to cope with the situation.
This past week, living legends Willie Nelson and Garth Brooks performed free livestream Facebook shows. Brooks is scheduled to perform Aug. 22 at the new home of the Las Vegas Raiders, Allegiant Stadium. Hopefully, he’ll be able to keep that date.
The entertainment capital of the world has severely felt the repercussions of the health scare. The Las Vegas community is known as “Vegas Strong.” But lately, we have been dubbed, “Vegas Stronger.” Each time we are hit with an unfortunate event, we band together, come out fighting, and bounce back stronger.
This is especially true of our entertainers. Many of our Vegas-based performers want to raise our spirits during these troubling times.
One such performer is Travis Cloer, a prolific Broadway and Strip entertainer. His accolades include a record-breaking run as the longest-running actor to play the role of Frankie Valli in the Grammy and Tony-winning hit, Jersey Boys, with over 2,200 performances. In November he released his first album titled, “Here’s Travis Cloer,” with his friend and fellow Strip headliner, Frankie Moreno.
Cloer is doing a series of free song video posts daily on Facebook direct from his home, called “Quarantunes” on his page, www.facebook.com/traviscloermusic. Livestream events are in the works with all information to be found on www.traviscloer.com.
“I want people to stay strong and keep music alive because music is healing and calms everyone’s minds,” Cloer said.
Jonathan Karrant is also looking to reach out to his fans via social media platforms. Born to sing and swing with style, Karrant is one of the hippest vocalists in jazz today. His album, “On and On” hit No. 4 on the Billboard Jazz Charts and his recent “Live” album reached No. 2 on the iTunes Jazz Charts.
“Music can be extremely healing and nurturing, providing light in the darkness of feeling gloomy at home right now,” Karrant said.
The acclaimed singer kicked off a livestreaming performance with his friend and pianist, Dell Smith, “From my living room to yours” this week with a “pay what you can event” and more scheduled shows upcoming, all found on www.stageit.com.
“This is a great way to create some camaraderie where people can socialize and interact with each other,” Karrant said of his decision to perform online.
You can receive all his info and follow Jonathan on his website, www.jonathankarrant.com.
One of the hardest working, versatile, and most recognizable entertainers in Las Vegas is Nieve Malandra. Whether you live in Vegas or have just visited, odds are you have seen the sultry singing sensation.
Singing in all styles ranging from jazz and classics to retro modern arrangements to current top 40 and rock, Malandra will be showing her diversity in multiple weekly themed performances for free on Facebook live (www.facebook.com/nieve.malandra) and “pay what you can” on www.stageit.com.
She will be joined each show for a song or two by her talented 11-year old daughter, Gigi.
“Just because people can’t be together doesn’t mean we can’t connect and be human,” said Malandra, the 2019 Silver State Award Performer of the Year winner. “Concerts are a good way to have social gatherings while practicing social distancing, protecting the vulnerable, and buying time for our healthcare systems to get a hold of the pandemic. Singing and music heals people including the musicians so everyone is important in this.”
Known for always pleasing their guests, Station Casinos is featuring their “At Home Sessions” for no charge on Facebook, in which you can see such notables perform as Frankie Perez, Michael Johnson, Brian Pollock of Blue String Theory, Rick Duarte, and Ray Allaire of Windjammers/Phoenix in this ongoing, online series.
I encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities to be entertained while you self-quarantine. It will not only keep you safe, it will help keep you sane.
