City of Las Vegas Partner for $6.9 Million Workforce Training Center

Workforce Training Center Las Vegas.jpgThe College of Southern Nevada and city of Las Vegas are partnering to create a new workforce training center in the city’s historic westside.

CSN said in a press release that the new center will “help train unemployed and under-employed residents who have not had viable pathways to careers with family-sustainable wages.”

“Workforce training is something that I have long been an advocate for and I am excited by the possibilities created by this grant and what will be created with our partners at the College of Southern Nevada,” Las Vegas City Councilman Cedric Crear said in a statement.

The center is made possible thanks to a $6.9 million U.S. Commerce Department grant created by the CARES Act, passed last spring in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

According to CSN, the center will use 10,000 square feet next to the Historic Westside School on Washington Avenue.

It will focus on entry-level skills training in trades like manufacturing, construction, information technology and health care.

CSN says it will also provide English as Second Language classes, along with adult education, high school equivalency, job readiness and “soft skills” training.

Officials expect the new Westside Workforce Education & Training Center to break ground later this year.
