If you are thinking of buying a home, it is important to be a good homebuyer. There are some tricks and tips that can give you the edge to make sellers want to take your offer!
The first and most important thing is to respect the seller. If they are still living in the home, make sure to work with them for the showing. When you get there, respect their items and their home rules. Some sellers request shoes to be taken off at the door; please do it. Make sure you don’t use the bathroom unless you have to, don’t sit on their furniture, and make sure your children are behaved and not running around their home.
The next tip is to go to your appointments. If you have an appointment to see a home, do not skip it. Emergencies do happen, so make sure to call your agent to keep them informed. A seller may have to leave the home, remove pets, and do extra cleaning for a showing, and if you don’t show up and don’t call, they might not be so accommodating the next time.
Do not nitpick and complain about flaws or things such as paint colors to the sellers. Remember that they see value in their home, and by pointing out every flaw, you are inadvertently insulting their home. A happy seller is an accommodating seller.
Work with the sellers on a closing date and additional visits to the home prior to closing. Do not request multiple visits. If you need to measure or get other home details that require a visit, do so when there is somebody else at the home, such as during the home inspection. The sellers are most likely packing and have a lot of things on their plates, so please remember that when requesting to see the home again.
